Help your community!

The Center for Abused Persons is seeking individuals willing to donate their time to assist victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Volunteers play a number of roles at the Center for Abused Persons:

1. Volunteers are needed for our telephone Crisis Hotline to provide crisis intervention as well as information and referral services. Callers may be suffering from depression, contemplating suicide, coping with the loss of a job, dealing with substance abuse or seeking help following domestic violence or sexual assault.
2. Volunteers are also needed to provide outreach and accompaniment for adults and children who have experienced sexual violence. Volunteers meet victims and their family members at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center to provide crisis intervention and information. Volunteers may also choose to provide accompaniment to court for victims of domestic violence. Volunteers may participate in one or both outreach programs based on their interests and schedule availability. Flexible scheduling is available 24-hours a day. All training for medical and court accompaniment is provided.
3. Volunteers are needed for our Board of Directors. Board Members help with community awareness efforts and fundraising.

Annual Candlelight Vigil

Annual Candlelight Vigil

Save The Date!

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

The Center for Abused Persons will be holding our annual Candlelight Vigil commemorating National Crime Victims’ Rights Week at 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Charles County Courthouse in La Plata.

This year’s theme is “Engaging Communities. Empowering Victims.” In order to help victims become survivors, we must first listen and lean in an effort to better understand what they need and how we can best serve them. Working together we can meet victims where they are and empower them through the healing process and as they become survivors.

Make a New Year’s Resolution to Make a Difference!

Make a New Year’s Resolution to Make a Difference!

Want to have more meaning in your life? Do you want to do something that is satisfying and of great service to your community? Then become a volunteer with the Center for Abused Persons!

Volunteers are needed for our telephone Crisis Hotline to provide crisis intervention as well as information and referral services. Callers may be suffering from depression, contemplating suicide, coping with the loss of a job, dealing with substance abuse or seeking help following domestic violence or sexual assault.

Volunteers are also needed to provide outreach and accompaniment services for victims at the hospital or the courthouse following an incident of sexual assault or domestic violence.

Becoming a volunteer is similar to helping a neighbor in need. The only qualification required is your desire to help someone who needs assistance. We will provide the training to help you give support to members of our community who are experiencing a crisis in their lives.

For more information about volunteering, call Jennifer Beall at 301-645-8994.
